À propos as I sort of watched the 80’s classic “Pretty in Pink” last night (for the very first time!) as per my aunt’s orders…Why is our parents’ generation so obsessed with that movie? Tbh I fell asleep 15 mins in, but to be fair, I was buried in a foam pit that was too comfortable to stay awake.
Anyway, many comments elicited from family members when I sported this baby doll pink tulle, most commonly — “You look like a cute 6 year old.” I quickly did the math in my head and realized that I still followed the tacit rule in fashion amongst the older set: You should only aspire to dress at most, 10 years younger than your real age. Otherwise known as the “x-10” rule. Ok, I just made up that algebraic formula while writing but seriously, when you spend a lot of time with women of “a certain age,” they say stuff like that. Maybe, subconsciously, I was adhering to that cardinal rule when I bought this dress from Missguided. 😉 But nevertheless, it was perfect to walk around in Southampton without breaking too much of a sweat…Very light, airy, and comfortable.
Ok, did you read the memo from the Wall Street Journal last month that the skinnies are out? Getting fashion advice from business publications seems off but to be fair, it is not a far-fetched concept to avoid the skinnies in the dead of summer for obvious reasons: denim gets hot and sticky in heat…!! But for all you denim die-hards out there, might I recommend loose and relaxed sweatpants with prints that make you look like you are wearing denim? I LOVE this ‘ripped’ denim look from Rag & Bone. If they had in other colors, I would get all of them. These are literally glorified sweatpants. For a student like myself, expanding the comfy wear wardrobe is always a good idea, especially if it adds flair to your ‘throw-on’ vibe. Otherwise, you can come off looking just sloppy…
Which is another reason I’ve been crazy about these backless tops from Onzie. I can double it as athletic AND street wear. Lycra workout tops, no matter how funky the design, always screams, “Yes, I’m going to the gym today!” If you want to stay covert or at least a tad bit more subtle, try these tops for Onzie. It’s from LA, need I say more? The material is Wildfox-like soft, too. I’m a sucker for softness so I was sold immediately. And of course, backless means one thing: Bra Lab solutions. You might remember me wearing them all throughout last year with my backless tops and dresses. Laces, solids, criss-crosses, so many options for the back. SO fitting for summer when open back clothing reigns. Here I wore the black cups with the white criss-cross back. Endless permutations with bralab 🙂
If you’re looking for a killer Instagram-worthy dessert venue, be sure to stop by Bombobar in the West Loop of Chicago. The menu even has a suggestion for the best Insta filter for their desserts – Juno. Lol. I’ll have to admit that I did feel a bit trite going there upon reading that bit but hey, 6 million Frenchmen can’t be wrong right? 😉
Anyway, I’m glad I went. It’s a tiny dessert pick-up place with a walk-up window, and you just order your decadent drink/gelato/Munchkin-like donut holes and plop down on one of these cute chairs for a quick re-fuel, as well as nod to fellow photographers who are taking Insta/blog photos with their respective DSLRs and iPhones. I had a refreshing matcha cooler because it was unbearably hot that day….and the donut hole was decadence squared.
